In order to achieve these outcomes, BELONG’s programme of work consists of three interlinking sub-programmes:
Cultural Competence and Confidence Sub-programme: Activities for BME children which promote self-esteem, resilience and the reduction of isolation, particularly in relation to strengthening their own cultural identity. Rights-based information and support for parents. Guidance, resources and training for service providers and the wider community.
Anti-Bullying and Anti-Racial Bullying Sub-programme: Complementing existing initiatives but at the same pro-actively advocating for the integration of tailored antiracial bullying elements. Awareness raising, training and resources for parents, youth workers and school staff. Advocacy on the prevention and challenging of racial bullying through the NI Anti-Bullying Forum.
Education Sub-programme: Additional support for children to improve educational achievement, enhance enjoyment of learning and increase participation in school activities. Guidance and support on transition to post-primary school for children and parents. Projects and training for schools on diversity awareness, assessing external learning & skills and improving engagement with parents.
